CBD has the ability to nourish, soothe, and heal your skin. As an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory holistic product, it truly has so many possibilities as an add-in for self-care DIY products.

Additionally, because CBD oil can be calming, it may help to reduce redness and control sebum production, which can help to balance and improve your skin.

Do CBD Face Masks Really Work?

Our recipe includes a few simple ingredients, which allows the flexibility to include any additional ingredients your skin may be craving. To start you’ll need to choose your own powdered clay.

Thanks to the minerals found in most natural clays, they can detoxify the skin while reducing excess oil, clearing your skin of pore-clogging impurities.

Clay face masks are a great way to pamper yourself after a long day or get your skin ready to glow before a day full of meetings. There are so many different types of clay to choose from and while they are all effective at drawing out impurities and improving your complexion, each of them varies slightly in additional benefits.

When choosing your clay for this recipe, make sure to read the label for care and use instructions like how long you should leave your mask on and how many times a week it is safe to use, as it can vary from product to product.

A few of our favorite powdered clays include:

Bentonite Clay

Bentonite clay is packed with minerals including calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron, and potassium. Not only does it enrich your skin with nutrients; but it has the ability to draw out unwanted toxins and acne-causing sebum, which is a primary cause of acne breakouts.

Moroccan Red Clay

Smooth to the touch, Moroccan red clay is highly absorbent and has exfoliating qualities. It is great for evening out blotchy skin tone and reducing acne – especially hard-to-treat blackheads. Additionally, its high silica and magnesium content is effective for increasing skin elasticity.

Costa Rican Blue Clay

Blue clay is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antitumoral which explains why it’s an excellent naturopathic remedy for your skin. It has an eclectic mix of minerals that will leave your skin looking clear and refreshed, and will also leave it feeling soft and hydrated.

Volcanic Clay

Volcanic Ash Clay works as an excellent exfoliator which helps to remove toxins and dust from the skin thus, giving you healthy, glowing skin. Volcanic ash is extremely drying and is excellent for oily skin. If you have sensitive skin, consider substituting the recommended vinegar in the recipe below with water and leave the mask on for a shorter time.

Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

We love adding raw apple cider vinegar to our mask because of its ability to help fight blemishes and breakouts. It comes from fermented apple cider and when fermented, the cider becomes acetic acid, which has an amazing ability to stave off acne-causing germs. It’s a great addition to your cleansing routine!

Follow a few simple steps to maximize the benefits:

  1. Wash your face, to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup.
  2. Dry your skin completely.
  3. Grab a non-metallic bowl and a wooden spoon to mix your mask. The metal takes away some of the beneficial qualities of the bentonite clay. Pro tip: We love mixing in a mini-mason jar to easily cover and store any extra in the fridge.
  4. If you have a clean wet-makeup brush, you can use it to apply your mask, otherwise applying with your fingers works great too.

Face Mask Ingredients:

Mix your powdered clay with equal parts raw apple cider vinegar and water and stir the mixture until it is a smooth paste – you can add more clay or liquid as needed.

Add your CBD tincture and stir until it is mixed in. Apply 1/8 to 1/4 inch layer to your face and let it dry.

Once you’ve waited the recommended time for your clay to dry, rinse the clay from your face and wash with mild face soap. We also recommend using a light, non-comedogenic, aka not pore-clogging, moisturizer in your post-mask routine as well.

This mask is so easy, you can use it every week, and your skin will thank you for it!

If you’re looking for a more soothing mask to help with redness or irritation, swap in a full dropper of Blooming Botanicals 1000mg Lavender CBD to replace the Original as recommended above. In addition to the benefits of CBD, lavender is known to reduce the appearance of blotchy skin and redness as it soothes the skin and works wonders for irritated skin.
