What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of marijuana, or manufactured in a laboratory. One of hundreds of components in marijuana, CBD does not cause a “high” by itself.
According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
How does CBD work in your body?
The human body has a molecular system called the endocannabinoid system that functions and responds to unique signals produced in our bodies. This system contains receptors that regulate and balance many processes in the body, including immune response, communication between cells, pain, appetite and metabolism, memory, and more. Our bodies are wired through this system to take in and process the cannabis plant containing phytocannabinoids aka plant-based substances with an affection for your cannabinoid receptors.
CBD is attracted to the endocannabinoid system’s CB2 receptors. CB2 receptors are believed to play a role in regulating immune signaling and inflammatory responses throughout the body.

What CBD is best for pain relief?
One of the things we define prior to making product recommendations is the type of pain that is being felt. Is your pain persistent and severe? Is it in your muscles and joints, or somewhere else?
Understanding whether you’re experiencing chronic or acute pain helps guide the decision between a CBD tincture or a salve for relief from pain and inflammation. Where salves can provide immediate relief from soreness, discomfort or tension, tinctures are better suited to provide relief for longer lasting and persistent pain. If you’re experiencing both types of pain, salves and massage oils are helpful as-needed supplements for a consistent tincture regimen.
There’s more to natural pain relief than CBD, however, which is why we’ve spent years formulating our product recipes to include the healing properties of herbs and plants.

Plant medicine included in Blooming Botanicals Salves
In our salves, we include Burdock, Calendula, Comfrey, Lavender, Eucalyptus and Tangerine. Each one of these plants is included for different reasons:
Burdock: Burdock root’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial components may help different skin conditions, like wrinkles, eczema, acne, and psoriasis when applied topically. A small observational study found burdock may help with inflammatory types of acne.
Calendula: The dried petals of the calendula plant are used in tinctures, ointments, and washes to treat burns, bruises, and cuts, as well as the minor infections they cause. Calendula also has been shown to help prevent dermatitis or skin inflammation in people with breast cancer during radiation therapy.
Comfrey: Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is sometimes used on the skin to treat wounds and reduce inflammation from sprains and broken bones. Comfrey roots and leaves contain allantoin, a substance that helps new skin cells grow, along with other substances that reduce inflammation and keep skin healthy.
Lavender: Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is an evergreen plant native to the Mediterranean. Its flower and oil have a popular scent and are also used as medicine. Lavender contains an oil that seems to have calming effects and might relax certain muscles and can help with deep sleep. It also seems to have antibacterial and antifungal effects.
Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus leaves have many impressive benefits. They may help decrease pain, promote relaxation, and relieve cold symptoms. Many over-the-counter products also use eucalyptus extract to freshen your breath, soothe irritated skin, and repel insects.
Tangerine: Besides killing bacteria, tangerine oils also have a cytoplastic effect—they cause new skin cells to grow faster. Beauty experts recommend applying them to prevent skin aging and to heal burns and other skin damage. This also reduces signs of cellulite.
Combined together with CBD, these plants support both immediate relief and long-term support for inflammation and pain. Plus, the combination of herbs and plants makes our salves smell refreshing and delightful.

Plant medicine included in our pain relief tincture
Our tinctures are specially formulated to provide specific benefits dependent upon the bottle. When asked about CBD tinctures for pain relief and inflammation, we recommend our Turmeric CBD Tincture.
How does turmeric help your body?
Turmeric is a powerful root that has been shown to help lower inflammation, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety and has great benefits for soothing arthritis. Adding black pepper increases the bioavailability of turmeric by 2000%, making this a supercharged turmeric elixir.
How is turmeric CBD oil made?
Our Turmeric blend combines the power of full spectrum CBD with CO2 extracted turmeric and black pepper to create a robust anti-inflammatory blend. We chose to use a supercritical CO2 extraction of turmeric and black pepper versus the regular turmeric spice powders you would see in the store because they are much more potent. The turmeric spice has on average 3% curcumin where the CO2 extract increases that number to 95%, greatly increasing its benefit to the body.
More information about the benefits of turmeric can be found here.
